3 Tasks to Automate First, and 3 to Leave Alone

Automate the repeatable prep work first. Leave ambiguous judgment, sensitive communication, and one-way decisions in human hands.

When people first start automating with AI, they often pick the flashiest task instead of the safest one. That is backwards. Your first win should be low drama and high repetition.

Automate these first

  1. Research collection: gathering sources, transcripts, or product notes into one packet
  2. Formatting and cleanup: turning rough notes into a cleaner structure you can inspect
  3. Monitoring and alerting: watching pages, feeds, or dashboards and waking you only when something changes

Leave these alone for now

  1. Sensitive outbound messages with emotional or legal weight
  2. Anything involving money, permissions, or destructive actions
  3. Vague strategy decisions where the real problem is not even named yet

A good first automation feels a little boring. That is a feature, not a bug. Boring systems are easier to trust, measure, and improve.
